Our name, Paybook, stems from the WWI and WWII era. Governments needed to pay soldiers’ salaries and reimburse their expenses, however, it was impossible to give cash every week to millions on the front lines. Instead, records were kept in books called pay books.
Each book stored personal information about a soldier, as well as how much pay he had earned and accumulated and any expenses he incurred, such as the purchase of arms, ammunition, food, etc. It was an important but rudimentary way to track income and expenses.
We’ve modernized the idea of the pay book by taking a simple, manual expense tracking system and transforming it into a one-stop, customizable solution for personal, social, and business financial management.
We come from diverse backgrounds but share one common goal: to create innovative solutions centered around streamlining financial processes in an effort to promote productivity, facilitate collaboration, and eradicate manual data entry and paper waste.
We chose the abacus as our logo to pay homage to one of the oldest known mathematical devices used for making calculations, managing inventories, and reconciling finances. Like the origin of our name, our logo is another historical element used to symbolize our need for tools that help track and record.
We are a passionate team of thinkers, dreamers, creators, and strategists.
